Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that our incoming residents may have a lot of questions about the program, where to find resources, and what requirements are necessary to complete prior to starting their journey with us. Please refer to the FAQs below for more information.
The Department of Medicine hosts a Welcome Lunch prior to the start of Orientation. We encourage incoming residents to make every effort to arrive in time for this function. However, it is also recommended that incoming residents arrive in Syracuse at least one week prior to this Welcome Lunch so they have time to settle in and enjoy Orientation Week.
Parking information will be provided at Orientation. You may also park in the Visitor Lot during Orientation. Parking tickets may be provided for incoming residents at the Educational Programs Office (EPO), Room 5138, at the University Hospital.
The dress code for Orientation is casual. We want you to be comfortable as you will be doing a lot of sitting around and absorbing. Ties are not necessary. Jeans are fine. Keep in mind that we will be taking your picture on one of the days during your Orientation, so wear your favorite outfit! The dress code for the Welcome Reception is more business casual. Dress code for the picnic is very casual, as it is tough to play sports or throw water balloons when you are dressed up.
As long as you complete all paperwork items that you have been instructed to complete from the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, you should be all set. You will be notified via phone call if anything is missing.
You are not required to have a NY State license to continue as a resident in the Department of Medicine.
Use the form on the Salary Verification Letter and fill in all necessary information. A letter will be generated for you.
Please make sure you notify Deb Killian, Paula Campion, and/or Sally Melton the Educational Programs Office (EPO), and Sue Henderson-Kendrick at the Graduate Medical Education Office (GME) of any changes to your contact information.
Please email the staff at the Educational Programs Office (EPO) (Deb Killian, Paula Campion, or Shanna Brown) with your contact information and the resident you are trying to reach. We will forward your contact information to the resident and ask them to contact you. We do not give out contact information for any of our current residents without their permission.
Please direct your scheduling questions to the Chief Residents, and any other questions to Deb Killian via email at killiand@upstate.edu.
