Fellow Social Life
It is well known that fellowship training is busy, however we believe that it is very important to balance work with outside activities. In the past, the program arranged and covered the cost of many social outings throughout the year, in addition to Pulmonary fellow social life activities that are fellow- and resident-driven.
Pulmonary Fellow Social Life
Fellows spend free time together by organizing picnics, movie nights, snow skiing days at nearby facilities, hiking days, meeting for breakfast, social parties, or perhaps competing in a friendly game of sports, like cricket or basketball. Large groups of residents frequently gather just to spend a day hiking at one of the nearby state parks.
The Social Sub-Committees
In 2011, the Social Sub-Committees was born! The Social Sub-Committees consists of several house staff that organize events throughout the year. The committee works within a set budget (provided by the Department of Medicine), to offer a variety of events throughout the year that all residents are invited to attend.
Annual Events
Every year in the summer, the Department of Medicine welcomes the new fellows, residents, and their families by inviting them to a social picnic at a local park venue for a meet and greet opportunity.
The Department of Medicine also welcomes new fellows and residents each year with a Welcome Reception. This is a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres style reception which provides an opportunity for the newly arriving fellows and residents to get to know the faculty members they will be working with
At the end of the academic year, there is a formal graduation award ceremony attended by all residents, fellows, and a guest as well as faculty and staff. The purpose of this dinner is to say goodbye and best wishes to those graduating from the program and to recognize residents, fellows, and faculty in the program for various teaching awards.
