How to Apply
Our fellows go through a rigorous application process that prepares them for the coursework and scheduling they will experience throughout their two-year fellowship at Upstate Medical University. We ask all candidates to take this application process seriously, as only the most well-rounded and excellent candidates will be chosen to proceed within the program. Below are frequently asked questions we receive about how to apply to the Endocrinology Fellowship.
Application Process FAQs
A candidate is selected for our fellowship based on a number of factors. These include but are not limited to performance on standardized test; grades and transcripts, letters of recommendation; degree of research experience; personal statements; academic interests; completion of Internal Medicine Residency training at least Board Eligible status; and interview performance.
We accept international medical graduates if they have ECFMG certification; and they have done their residency in an ACGME accredited program.
We will sponsor J1 Visa, Permanent Resident, and EAD. (H1B Visas will not be sponsored.)
No, we do not. As mentioned previously, we will only sponsor J-1 visa.
Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate outside learners within the Department of Medicine.

The Fellowship Selection Sub-Committees will extend interview invitations only after reviewing completed applications. For an application to be considered complete the following items must be included: Application, CV, personal statement, MSPE, medical school transcript, USMLE Steps 1, 2 and 3 scores, at least three letters of recommendation. We will contact interviewing candidates (by email) as early as possible to permit suitable travel planning.
Interviews will be held virtually this year due to the restrictions put in place by COVID-19.
We ask that applicants take special care in picking their interview dates, in order to avoid having to request a change.
Due to the number of applicants, only those selected for interview will be contacted.
