We at the Rheumatology Fellowship understand you still may have some questions about the Fellowship program and life in Syracuse. We encourage you to explore the FAQs below for more information or reach out to our faculty for more in-depth answers to your queries.
We cover 4 hospitals- Downtown Upstate University Hospital, Community General Hospital, Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital and VA Medical Center. Downtown Upstate and Crouse Hospital are connected to each other, and the VA is a 30 second outdoor walk away. Community Hospital is a 10-minute drive however, we generally receive the fewest number of consults here.
Yes, there are about 20 electives we rotate through, including ophthalmology, dermatology, MSK radiology, various orthopedic clinics (spine, hand, total joint, sports medicine), renal pathology, immunology, and many others.
Consult weeks are 1 week at a time and are distributed amongst 6 fellows.
All Upstate (Community General Hospital, Downtown campus, and continuity clinics) facilities use Epic. The VA uses CPRS. Crouse Hospital uses Cerner.
There are weekly clinical grand rounds presentations on Thursdays, basic science laboratory conferences on Wednesdays, and educational didactics on Friday mornings.
Yes, every Monday afternoon.
There is plenty to do in Syracuse- lots of outdoor activities in all 4 seasons including beautiful hikes, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc. The cost of living is low, and many larger cities are a drive away including New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia.
