Program Overview
At the Department of Medicine at Upstate Medical University, we are proud to offer a robust Rheumatology Fellowship program designed to provide our fellows with the highest level of expertise in this specialized field. Our program is an embodiment of our mission to improve health through rigorous education, cutting-edge research, and comprehensive healthcare.
Our Fellowship Training Program Goals
- To train graduates that are clinically competent in Rheumatology and related fields of interest. Our goals are to produce academic rheumatologists, scholars, and researchers that can work in a variety of settings including being expert consultants, clinicians, teachers as well as clinical or basic science investigators.
- To train graduates that develop and maintain lifelong learning habits to further enhance their knowledge, skills, and professionalism.
- To train graduates to work with diverse patient populations with a variety of common and rare Rheumatological disorders. This experience is gained through their exposure to 3 different hospital settings (UH, Crouse-Irving Memorial, VA) in both in-patient and out-patient practice.
- To train graduates with best research practices, including sound methodology in designing and performing research studies and the correct interpretation and synthesis of research data applied to patient care. This is achieved through an active research component in the program and includes appropriate protected time in trainees’ schedules, access to ongoing NIH-funded studies in the lab, and an opportunity to study from the large and diverse patient population of the area.
