Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism
Our endocrinologists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of adults with hormonal disorders. These include diabetes, thyroid diseases including thyroid cancer, pituitary and adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, and other endocrine and metabolic diseases. Our esteemed Joslin Diabetes Center is the largest diabetes center in Central New York. Faculty conduct numerous research studies related to the prevention and management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and its complications.
At Upstate Medical University, our faculty actively engages in clinical care, teaching, and research within the specialized field of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism. Our areas of expertise include diabetes management, thyroid abnormalities, lipid disorders, osteoporosis, adrenal diseases, pituitary tumors, calcium metabolism disorders, mineralocorticoid and electrolyte imbalances, metabolic bone diseases, and reproductive endocrine disorders.
Joslin Diabetes Center
Established in 1995 as the 11th branch of the Boston-based Joslin Diabetes Center, the SUNY Upstate Medical University's Joslin Diabetes Center in Syracuse serves the largest population of diabetes patients in Central New York. Our team of specialists in endocrinology, Diabetes, and metabolism provides comprehensive care for patients dealing with disorders of the body's primary glands, Diabetes, osteoporosis, and other metabolic diseases.
As a globally acknowledged authority in diabetes care, research, and education, the Joslin Diabetes Center operates in partnership with Harvard Medical School and has been addressing the medical and emotional needs of individuals with Diabetes since its inception in 1898.
